Small space on 34st, Korean Town. They almost always have readings every month. Some are free, others are a small free. Recently, they had their biggest event yet: Page Turner-Asian American Reading Festival.
Couple years ago, I went with my cousin to the Bowery Poetry Club. Though I thought this would be boring initially, it turned out to be very interesting! The artists are interesting and was also very entertaining!
In those weekly e-mails from either Macaulay or CUNY, there are always special events for poetry and/or readings by famous writers as well as other artists.
At your local Barnes and Noble, especially at the Union Square Bookstore, are writers and/or artists who in an attempt to promote their works, host a reading night where people can sit and gain a glimpse of what the new work is about. After that, there is normally a book signing where you can get your work/book autographed!
I think this one is pretty self-explanatory but these are public places where you can read a variety of books to satisfy your thirst for literature.

A place to record your deepest secrets, experiences, or anything you wish. No one to talk back, no one to judge. It can be considered many people's sanctuary, or something to turn to when no one else is there. In other cases, it can be used as a way to document specific daily activities, such as sleep and exercise. Over time, what we consider our own personal diary in which we record our present life could become a significant historical document.
Around 42nd street, people often hand out fliers and selling tickets for comedy shows. They are stand-up comedy shows that show an artist's ability to play with words.
Schools often host open mike talent shows. People can read poems, essays, or even lyrics they have written to a crowd of people. Very enjoyable!!
